Vigo di Fassa is a small town in Val di Fassa Trentino Alto Adige.

We stayed here in summertime when Eleonora was four months old.

Vigo di Fassa

We stayed at the Catinaccio hotel, which is just under the beautiful Catinaccio mountains, few steps will bring you under the Catinaccio Cable entrance where you can take a trip to Ciampedie which is at 2000 meters.

Unfortunately, we did not take any cableway or chair lift as Eleonora was to small, the pediatrician suggested me not to go over 1.500 meters until she was one, however we enjoined long walks in the area

Vigo di Fassa

You can go most everywhere even with the stroller, but I would recommend to use a trekking one. The baby backpack can be used as well but was too heavy for me.

You can play with your kids in a safe kids playground, every town has one and the one in Vigo was just located one block down the hotel.

Vigo is a small town but unfortunately everything is on the main street so be careful at the cars when walking around especially with kids.

Catinaccio

I need to give credit to the Catinaccio’s hotel as the Lorenz family who is running it it’s very kind.

When I was alone, during the meals they offered me to keep the baby while I was eating to have some relax; they also offered me to wash my baby suites, and the cot was so nice looking… I wanted to buy this set.

Moreover the food at the restaurant was fabulous, we had the half board, the breakfast and the dinner were simply perfect, the smell, the taste, the look was exceptional. A special mention to the desserts better than any Cake show seen at the TV.

What to See in the Area:

From Vigo in a short driving distance you can reach different nice places, I would recommend to visit the following: Canazei, Passo Pordoi and Lago di Carezza.

Canazei: is a little jewel in Alta Val di Fassa, located at an altitude of 1,465 metres and therefore is one of the highest Italian villages. Thanks to the surrounding Marmolada and Sella mountains, Canazei is a popular holiday resort in winter and summer. A lot of hiking trails are spread across the mountains, from where you might enjoy a breath-taking view of valleys and mountains. From the Gruppo di Sella mountains to the Sassolungo or the Marmolada – they all attract numerous visitors year after year.

Passo di San Pellegrino

In winter you will get to know Canazei’s true nature. Now the renovated broad ski centre with its four ski areas – Belvedere, Ciampac, Col Rodella and Marmolada – is within easy reach.

Canazei

Canazei is good for shopping too and you can find also the most beautiful, in my opinion, hotels in the area, the most part of them have SPAs free for the guests open all the year. However, I need to say that usually the SPA is forbidden to children under a certain age so it can be difficult to get in if you are alone with your children, indeed I never tried one….

Passo Pordoi: between Sass Pordoi and Sass Becé, defines the border between Trento and Belluno is only 12 Km far from Canazei but the street has 28 hairpin bends. Pordoi is really famous in Italy as it has been one of most important battlefield during the WWI. During the summer a lot of trekking paths start from here I would say that the most of them are really difficult so I’m not suggesting you to do with your little ones or with a stroller wait until your children will be teenager and you had some exercise in winter time in preparation of. There is anyway a less hard and nice one which is the Viel dal Pan, that means the Bread Road and it was a real street used in the past by the bakers during their trips between Veneto and Trentino

Lago di Carezza: proably is the most beautiful mountain lake in the Alps.

Lago di Carezza is a must for everyone who is in Sud Tirol area, this lake is in Alta Val d’Ega, 6 km from Nova Levante. This small mountain lake is well-known for its soft, deep green waters and the exquisite view of the Rosengarten and Latemar mountain ranges.

Lago di Carezza

This lake does not have apparently any affluent but there are underground springs that bring the water from the Latemar.

We enjoyed a beautiful walk along the lake is an easy path however I preferred bring Eleonora in my bung bag. This is perfect day trip from Vigo for example.

I would add that I never forget the way Eleonora looked at this lake because the fabulous colors it has.
